The FIFA Football for Schools (F4S) programme has officially kicked off in Zimbabwe’s Midlands province, with schools across seven districts receiving a fresh supply of footballs in a bid to nurture young talent and expand access to the sport.
The initiative, supported by FIFA and implemented by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), targets schools in Gokwe, Kwekwe, Mvuma, Gweru, Shurugwi, Mberengwa, and Zvishavane, aiming to bridge the gap between urban and rural football development.
A ZIFA spokesperson emphasized that the project goes beyond just distributing equipment: “It’s about giving every child, no matter where they are, the opportunity to dream, play, and grow through football.”
The F4S programme is part of a broader FIFA-backed strategy to promote grassroots football development, with a focus on inclusion and youth empowerment. ZIFA hopes the initiative will help transform local playgrounds into breeding grounds for future national team stars.
This rollout aligns with Zimbabwe’s long-term vision to democratize football, ensuring talent is cultivated nationwide—not just in major cities. With FIFA’s support, the programme could play a key role in unearthing the next generation of Zimbabwean footballers.
