Bulawayo – At first glance, the Pacific Bulawayo Shutdown’s lineup appears eclectic, even contradictory. Dancehall, Afro-fusion, traditional music and DJ culture coexist on one bill. That, organisers say, is the point.
“The sound of Bulawayo has never been one thing,” said Jordan Dube. “Ubuntu means everyone belongs — musically and culturally.”
Artists including Fab G, Noluntu J, DJ Prince Eskosini, and Insimbi ZeZwane represent a sonic map of modern Zimbabwe: urban, rural, digital and ancestral.
For Insimbi ZeZwane, the platform is about continuity. “We are not here to compete with modern sounds,” said a group representative. “We are here to remind people where rhythm began.”
The result is a concert designed less as a playlist and more as a dialogue — between generations, genres and histories — unfolding live on one stage.
