Zimbabwe have received a timely boost ahead of their upcoming T20I Tri-Series against New Zealand and South Africa, with fast bowler Richard Ngarava and all-rounder Brian Bennett returning from injury to bolster the squad.

Ngarava, who missed Zimbabwe’s recent Test series against South Africa due to a lower back injury sustained during the England tour in May, has regained full fitness. Bennett, meanwhile, was concussed after being struck on the helmet by Kwena Maphaka in the first Test against the Proteas, forcing him out of the remainder of the series.

The duo’s return strengthens Zimbabwe’s 16-man squad, which will be led by Sikandar Raza and features a blend of experience and fresh talent. Key players like Ryan Burl, Tony Munyonga, and Tashinga Musekiwa—who impressed in Zimbabwe’s T20I series against Ireland in February—have retained their spots.

The selectors have also handed opportunities to three uncapped players in the format: wicketkeeper-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga, left-arm quick Newman Nyamhuri, and leg-spinner Vincent Masekesa.

Tri-Series Schedule & Format

Zimbabwe will open their campaign against South Africa on July 14 at Harare Sports Club, followed by a clash with New Zealand on July 18. They will meet South Africa again on July 20, before rounding off the group stage with a second fixture against the Black Caps on July 24.

The top two teams will advance to the final on July 26, with Zimbabwe hoping home advantage can help them challenge two of the world’s top T20I sides.

The series marks an important step in Zimbabwe’s preparations ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup, offering a chance for emerging players to stake their claim against high-quality opposition.
